Over the last 12 years, I’ve gained experience and familiarity with multiple citizen issues. I've built respectful relationships with our staff and I'll work with them to investigate your issue and get results and answers for you.

Respect And Value Your Tax Dollars
Focus on your top issues and having the services and facilities you want, balanced at price you're comfortable with. Keep our roads, infrastructure, parks and trails a top priority. Support saving costs through partnerships, sponsorships and new technologies. Keep supporting investments that address affordable housing, climate change and sustainability. Support what brings economic, environmental, social and cultural value to our city and improves service levels to you. Make disciplined, evidence and data based decisions with your tax dollars.
Affordability is the dominant issue facing all of us. In these current uncertain times, we need continued fiscal responsibility to deliver affordable, high quality, dependable core services you rely on for things like our roads, snow clearing, parks, trails, facilities and infrastructure. That fiscal responsibility has to be balanced with social responsibility and deliver on the priorities that you and our collective community feel contribute most to our quality of life.
Those priorities will come from the 2027-30 Strategic Plan. It's been in progress since March 2026 when the resident survey done by Abacus Research opened. Housing affordability and availability, climate change and sustainability, having a strong local economy, offering affordable and free city programs, community infrastructure - spaces, recreational facilities, parks and trails and managing and planning for growth are some of the top issues so far.
Discussions with community and business groups on the survey results have taken place and a diverse resident panel is working to define the top priorities and actions to address them. In December 2026 a draft plan will be prepared and your input and feedback on it will shape the final plan that comes to council for approval and priority setting.
When setting priorities, council must keep costs and our city staff's capacity to deliver them in mind. They must be turned in actionable items and delivered through plans that are tracked so you can see progress and results. I encourage you to follow the progress on this plan and when the draft plan is ready, provide your input on it. You can find the information on the Strategic Plan HERE
I'll keep making disciplined, evidence and data based decisions with your tax dollars. Since the first budget I was part of in 2015 till now, I’ve worked together with fellow councillors and staff to keep tax increases responsible and respectable. The average of those tax increases has been at or below the rate of inflation. See our Budget History and Highlights since 2015 HERE
We’ve done that while adding amenities like the Cowan Indoor Recreation Centre and seeing wins in Ward 2 like improving Oaten, Idlewood and Kinzie Parks and the outdoor facilities at the Centreville Chicopee Community Centre. We’re adding the Idlewood underground storm water facility to improve drainage through the neighbourhood. We’ve donated land to Habitat For Humanity for their Holborn Court Housing Project here in Ward 2 that will provide more than 60 affordable home ownership units that will always stay affordable.

The Role Of City Councillor
I see my role as serving you. That means helping you with issues you're experiencing like speeds on residential streets, bylaw issues, planning and building department concerns, questions about our roads, parks and trails, help with city issued bills, how to have an event in your neighbourhood and any issue you're experiencing. I advocate for you with our staff to get answers and results. It also means attending and being accessible at information sessions when changes like traffic calming or park improvements come to a neighbourhood and helping and advocating with other orders of government. I have a record of supporting and connecting groups and individuals. You can see some testimonials of that work HERE
Council and Committee meetings are where decisions involving your tax dollars are made. Preparation for them is key. That means reading the reports and information packages for them, speaking with staff prior to meetings for more information and clarification, reading emails and taking calls from residents on an issue. It also involves connecting and speaking with the 9 other councillors and our mayor to learn their views, ideas and concerns and share mine.
There are always opposite sides to issues. Councillors are often asked to pick a side, so making a decision can be challenging. I consider all the available information and views when basing my decision. I believe finding balance and building consensus is very important. I am one vote on Council, It takes collaboration, communication, and co-operation with fellow councillors to reach a decision. While we don't always agree on every issue, I value respectful and positive relationships with fellow members of council and staff.
Being present in the community and being accessible is very important I take pride in attending Ward and City events and attending our Centreville-Chicopee and Stanley Park Neighbourhood Association meetings.
