THE CYCLING & TRAILS MASTER PLAN
A lot of engagement and Community input went into creating Kitchener's Strategic Plan for 2019 to 2022. One of the most important issues that came up was People Friendly Transportation. It's a pillar of this plan. Improve connectivity and year-round maintenance to multi-use trails and pathways as prioritized through the Cycling and Trails Master Plan. The initial target of providing year-round access to a minimum of an additional 3 k.m. of existing trails by 2022.
The Cycling and Trails Master Plan is about creating a city-wide network of cycling routes and trails that are safe and comfortable for everyone, no matter what your age or ability. This means a focus on safe and comfortable facilities like off-street trails and protected bicycle lanes that are physically separated from traffic, and having cycling routes on streets with low traffic volumes and speeds
