Pink Shirt Day happens on the last Wednesday in February. It began in 2007 at Central Kings Rural High School in Cambridge, Nova Scotia. Grade 12 students David Shepherd and Travis Price wanted to show support for a Grade 9 student who was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. They bought, then gave out pink tank tops to fellow students and organized a day where students wore their pink shirt to show of support for that grade 9 student and take a stand against bullying. Since then Pink Shirt Day has been observed in Canada and other parts of the world.
Travis Price shared that as they were handing the shirts out in the main entrance to their school, the boy who had been bullied walked in. The look on his face spoke volumes. ‘It looked like a huge weight was lifted off his shoulders. The bullies were never heard from again.”
