Kitchener Summer Camps
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What Covid-19 protocols will be in place?
Covid-19 protocols as outlined by the Government of Ontario and Region of Waterloo Public Health will be implemented. City staff are planning for what we know but will be prepared to adapt to any new or emerging recommendations to ensure both our staff and campers are safe. All staff and campers will complete Covid-19 screening, contact logs will be kept, frequent and proper handwashing protocols will be ensured, enhanced cleaning for high tough surfaces will be completed, camps will be designed in weekly cohorts and all staff and campers will be asked to wear a face covering. Staff will continue to work closely with our Public Health partners to ensure that we are doing everything we can.
Will there be an emphasis on outdoor activities? How will physical distancing/screening be enforced?
Absolutely! Our programs traditionally place a big focus on outdoor play and the use of our outdoor spaces. We have fun ways to help kids ensure that they are maintaining proper physical distancing like songs and props and we know that they have learned a lot about this at school this year.
What will camp cohorts look like? (ratios / maximum capacity /etc.) And how will this potentially impact the number of spots available?
Camp programs will have a maximum of 10 campers in the program where the physical space allows. Numbers may be smaller to accommodate for smaller room sizes. This does not include the staff who will run the program. We are still confirming a few site locations and hope to have more spaces come available.
What do parents need to know about registering? Will they get their money back if there's another shutdown (before/during camps)?
Should programs be cancelled as a result of further Provincial lockdowns or directions, parents and guardians can expect a full camp refund. Please visit the City of Kitchener website for information about registering for camps. Our camp staff are excited to plan a fun and active summer for kids. There are some virtual program opportunities for parents who feel more comfortable with this option. Staff are always available to provide more information on anything camp related. Fee assistance is available to assist with the financial barriers of accessing summer camps.
Registration for Kitchener neighbourhood camps, summer inclusion support and the new Teen Zone program is now open. Click the Register For Camps bar above.
