Kitchener's 2022 Budget was Finalized on Monday December 13
The approved increases and impact on the average home are:
A property tax increase of 1.99 per cent ($ 23 per year)
A water utility increase of 2.2 per cent ($26 per year)
A gas increase of 10.4 per cent ($74 per year)

It includes
$2 million to create an affordable housing reserve fund to offset the costs of developing affordable and supportive housing
Moving further on our Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Anti-Racism & Indigenous work
Investments in the economy for pandemic recovery projects
Restarting projects paused in 2021 due to the pandemic
Upgrades to parks and trails and city facilities

Our annual budget sets the plan for spending. It continues funding the priorities in our 2019-2002 strategic plan set through community engagement to reflect your priorities of Great Customer Service, People Friendly Transportation, Environmental Leadership, Caring Community and a Vibrant Economy.. It invests in our equity, anti-racism and Indigenous initiatives team to better reflect our community’s diversity and address needs. It supports Kitchener’s economic recovery from COVID-19. We're continuing our Housing For All Strategy. It continues spending to sustain our roads, bridges and transportation infrastructure, maintains our core services and infrastructure. That's a brief overview, Nothing is set until Final Budget Day, until the budget is at the proposed stage and can change.

For the average residential property in Kitchener, the proposed rate increases for 2022 are:
A property tax increase of 1.9% or $21 annually to the average household
A water utilities increase of 2.2% or $26
A gas increase of 12.7 per cent
This represents an annual increase of about $47 for property tax and water utilities combined and about a $90 annual increase for natural gas due to the increase in supply that is being felt across the province and country.
